Two kinds of need

On Saturday, May 7, 2022, I will be Riding as part of VeloCity, supporting Grady Health System. Most will know, I am a person quick to donate, but do not solicit very often.
To me, it’s is about two kinds of need. Many of us in metro Atlanta have seen a vast increase in the visibility of the homeless all over the city. While the challenges posed by losing major bridges to fires warming the homeless, police sweeps of camps, and aggressive panhandling are real. I am keenly aware that when the indigent get Ill - from a cough… to major health crisis - Grady is often their sole source of care. In fact Grady expends in excess of $300m per year in indigent and charitable care.
The second kind of care is the kind we all hope we might never need… As a level 1 trauma center, Grady is also there when the unimaginable happens–when ANY of us need critical care by accidents, burns, strokes, or other life-threatening injuries. I myself, once struck by a motorist while riding my bicycle, have benefitted from Grady’s care.
Funds raised will help Grady provide will serve these needs (and more) and will also be used to support the amazing women and men who work at Grady, all of whom labored tirelessly through the COVID-19 pandemic and continue to impact the lives of thousands of patients each and every day.
